The Miller Center is pleased to announce our November 2018 Employee of the Month, Youth Programs Coordinator Keith Jacobsen.
Keith is an extremely busy guy here at The Miller Center where not only is he the brains behind all of our fun and exciting programs for kids & families, but is often the guy who runs them! The kids know him as “Coach Keith” and literally follow his every move. Keith is originally from Oakland, New Jersey where he went to Indian Hills High School. After graduating from Stockton University, he worked as a 5th grade teacher for 2 years in Baltimore. He was a phys-ed teacher at the Montessori School, also in Baltimore, and has held various other positions in the field of education all over the United States. Keith has experience in various fields including special education, substitute teaching, tutoring, refereeing and even camp counseling. Keith began here at The Miller Center in the summer of 2017 as an Americorps member. After his tenure was up, he landed the full-time position of Youth Programs Coordinator.
Director of Sports and Recreation Kyle Snyder said that Keith makes his job easier. “Keith is a trustworthy coworker who has a passion for kids. He has developed quality youth programs that our community has embraced wholeheartedly. His expertise in finding creative ways to get kids active and his knack to involve all kids, regardless of age or ability level, is like nothing I’ve ever seen.”
Employees here at The Miller Center are all well aware of Keith’s celebrity status. Kyle elaborates, “Keith is truly a super-star in the eyes of our toddlers. Every time we run Little and Big Stars, kids arrive with a huge smile and a loud “Coach Keith!” as they run in to give him a high five or hug. Seeing kids light up when he says their name means is something I’ll never grow tired seeing.”
Keith lives with his wife, Michelle, and dog, Perkie here in Lewisburg. When he’s not coming up with the next great kids or family programming idea here at The Miller Center, Keith likes to play sports, hike, bike, swim, read and write. He loves to travel and spend time with family and friends. And, not only does Keith like to play the games he teaches young kids, but he also likes to create his own! Pretty cool.
Congratulations, Keith, and thank you for all you’re doing to ensure that no kid leaves here unhappy! You embody the true meaning of The Miller Center’s mission and we’re so glad you landed here in Central Pennsylvania. For being named our November 2018 Member of the Month, Keith will receive a gift certificate to our Cornerstone Kitchen café, as well as his very own parking spot.
